A backlight assembly and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to form light scattering patterns to a plurality of light sources for improving an amount of light and improving light mixing characteristics, thereby removing optical sheets for diffusion and reducing a distance between a liquid crystal panel and the light sources. A backlight assembly includes a plurality of fluorescent lamps(250) formed with light scattering patterns(260) on surfaces thereof, and a reflection plate(230) for reflecting light generated by the lamp and leaked toward a side opposite to a liquid crystal panel. The light scattering patterns are formed by MEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical System), 2-Photolithography, or Sol-Gel techniques. The light scattering patterns are semicircular with refraction rates. |
