PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic settlement system capable of simply preventing unauthorized copy of a bill in the case of realization of check truncation.

SOLUTION: Two-dimensional bar codes 56 formed by converting a paper pattern ID for distinguishing one printing paper from the other are imparted to the bill, in-clearing bank terminal 300 transmits the paper pattern ID and the two-dimensional bar codes to an electronic bill clearinghouse server 100, which manages the paper pattern ID and the two-dimensional bar codes by associating them with each other, an out-clearing bank terminal 400 acquires the paper pattern ID and the two-dimensional bar codes from the bill taken in and transmits them to the electronic bill clearinghouse server, which compares the paper pattern ID and the two-dimensional bar codes managed by the electronic bill clearinghouse server with the paper pattern ID and the two-dimensional bar codes transmitted from the out-clearing bank terminal to judge validity of the bill taken in the out-clearing bank terminal.
