PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination apparatus which advantageously provides a substantially longitudinal, uniform and concentrated light output in a novel and unobvious way. SOLUTION: In the illumination apparatus which includes at least one light source unit, a light waveguide and a light-extracting component and is used for producing an elongated light illumination, when light from a light source enters the light waveguide at one or both ends of the light waveguide, varying cross-sectional area of a second subguide controls a light flux density inside the light waveguide; a portion of light propagating inside the light waveguide is redirected by the light-extracting component to form an effective light-emitting object at an entrance opening and is further projected by an integral light-concentrated optics to provide a substantially longitudinal, uniform and concentrated light output while a reflective envelope catches and recycles leaked light back into the light waveguide.
