PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed-detecting device and a speed-detecting method capable of stably detecting the actual travelling speed of vehicles. SOLUTION: The speed-detecting device includes a period detector, a period-integrating section, a period calculating section, and a speed-calculating section. The period detector detects each period of the alternate signals for one revolution of a wheel outputted from a speed generator prepared at the shaft of a vehicle. The period-integrating section integrates each period that is detected by the period detector. The period-calculating section calculates the averaged period, by dividing the period integrated by the period integrating section by the number of periods in a single revolution of the wheel. A speed-calculating section calculates the traveling speed of vehicle, from the average period calculated by the period calculating section. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
