A portable terminal having a WLAN(Wireless LAN) card function and a wireless Internet service method thereof are provided to be connected to a notebook computer via a CF(Compact Flash) type connector and to reduce a size because the CF type connector is smaller than a PCMCIA type connector. A portable terminal having a WLAN(Wireless LAN) card function comprises a CF type connector(11), a wireless communication unit(17), a CF type interface(13), a UART(Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter), a controller(19), and a display unit(21). The CF type connector(11) is connected to a notebook computer. The wireless communication unit(17) transmits/receives a voice call conversation or a message in a portable phone mode and transmits/receives wireless data in a wireless Internet mode. The CF type interface(13) converts wireless Internet data, received by the wireless communication unit(17), into data based on a CF type protocol, and outputs the converted data to the CF connector(11). The UART(15) converts the wireless Internet data, received by the wireless communication unit(17), into one single bit stream, and outputs the single bit stream to the CF connector. The controller(19) converts a portable phone mode into a wireless Internet mode when the CF connector(11) is connected to a notebook computer, and controls an overall operation in accordance with the wireless Internet mode. The display unit(21) displays a message that the portable terminal is operated in the wireless Internet mode.
