PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus reading an excellent image even when a positional relation between a lens array and a line sensor configuring an image read section is deviated because of occurrence of thermal expansion. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: the image read section 104 for reading an original; a shading correction data generating section 106; an image data processing section 109; and a reference position detection section 107 for preliminarily adding a mark to the lens array constituting the image read section in a position where no original is conveyed and for detecting the position of a mark from the read data. The apparatus is characterized in that when the mark position detected by the reference position detection section 107 differs from a mark position having been detected in advance, the image data processing section 109 processes image data read by the image read section 104, using the difference and shading correction data.
