PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer containing silanol group and a method for producing the polymer. SOLUTION: The polymer containing a silanol group has a polymer part and a univalent group bonded to the polymer part and expressed by general formula (1): -Me<SB>2</SB>SiO(Me<SB>2</SB>SiO)<SB>m</SB>(Me<SB>2</SB>Si-R<SP>1</SP>)<SB>n</SB>-Me<SB>2</SB>SiOH (R<SP>1</SP>groups are each independently an oxygen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted bivalent hydrocarbon group; Me is a methyl group; m is 0-4; and n is 0 or 1). The method for producing the polymer containing a silanol group comprises the reaction of a polymer containing an aliphatic unsaturated bond with an organic silicon compound expressed by general formula (4): H-Me<SB>2</SB>SiO(Me<SB>2</SB>SiO)<SB>m</SB>(Me<SB>2</SB>Si-R<SP>1</SP>)<SB>n</SB>-Me<SB>2</SB>SiOH (R<SP>1</SP>, Me, m and n are same as those defined above) in the presence of a platinum-group metal catalyst. The invention further relates to a method for introducing a group containing a silanol group to the above polymer by reacting the polymer containing an aliphatic unsaturated bond with the organic silicon compound in the presence of a platinum-group metal catalyst.
