PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material identification device capable of identifying a sheet material with excellent accuracy. SOLUTION: A time information detection means 105 to detect the time in which the electric signal from a detection unit 300 changes from the first voltage value to the second voltage value set in one waveform of the electric signal waveform in advance is provided on a sheet material identification unit 101 to identify the kind of the sheet material based on the electric signal from the detection unit 300 to output the electric signal by an impact applied to the sheet material by an impact application member. The sheet material identification unit 101 identifies the kind of the sheet material based on the electric signal from the detection unit 300 and time information from the time information detection means 105.
