<p>A device and a method for controlling a traveling body capable of reducing wasteful fuel consumption by accurately specifying a time period in which an engine is rotated but does not work. A clutch is disengaged, and a correlation map between an accelerator opening (accelerator opening in racing) in the raced state of the engine and an engine speed (engine speed in racing) is obtained beforehand. The actual accelerator opening (Am) and the actual speed (Em) of the engine are measured, and based on the actual accelerator opening, an engine speed (Et) according to the actual accelerator opening is read from the correlation map. A deviation between the read engine speed and the actual engine speed is obtained. When the deviation is equal to or less than a first prescribed value, the clutch is disengaged, and the engine is controlled into an idle rotating state irrespective of the actual accelerator opening.</p> |
