A method of treating respiratory infection, atherosclerosis, and osteoporosis in a patient caused by infection of Gram-negative bacteria having a Type III secretion, in particular by Chlamydia pneumoniae, comprises the administration of a pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmacologically effective amount of a Type III secretion blocker and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Also disclosed is a method for the manufacture of a medicament for use in said method of treatment.
