<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode for a secondary battery, capable of enhancing cycle characteristics, the secondary battery using it, and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material layer 12B is formed by a gas phase method, and contains Si as a component element. The negative electrode active material layer 12B has a plurality of primary particles formed by growing in its thickness direction, and these primary particles gather to form a plurality of secondary particles. Some of the primary particles 123 have shapes bent in the same direction with respect to a negative electrode collector 12A in the cross-sections of their thickness direction.
