<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte membrane-electrode assembly in which increase in volume of a cell and a stack, and reduction in power generation performance caused accompanying complication in a configuration of an MEA can be suppressed to the minimum. <P>SOLUTION: The assembly has a cathode catalyst layer formed on one surface of a polyelectrolyte membrane, an anode catalyst layer formed on the other surface, and a first gasket layer formed on at least one part of the end of the cathode catalyst layer. The thicknesses of one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of the polyelectrolyte membrane, the cathode catalyst layer, the anode catalyst layer, and the first gasket layer are formed to be thinner than those of the other sites of the assembly at the overlapping site so that at least the thickness of the assembly at a site where the cathode catalyst layer and the first gasket layer are overlapped with each other becomes approximately equal to that of the assembly at an existing part of the first gasket layer where the cathode catalyst layer and the first gasket layer are not overlapped with each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
