<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a means for adjusting the transfer position of each color component image. <P>SOLUTION: One color component is set (S11), and a patch image by the set color component is formed (S12). A control part acquires the detection output V1 of regularly reflected light and the detection output V2 of irregularly reflected light at a predetermined sampling rate (S13), and calculates the passing timing T1 of the patch image by using a threshold TH1 for the detection output V1 (S14). Then, it calculates correction output V3 (=V1-V2) (S15), and calculates the passing timing T3 of the patch image by using a threshold TH3 for the correction output V3 (S16). Next, it calculates (T1-T3) as correction time ΔT for the detection output V1 (S17).
