PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for driving an image display device that can achieve good multi-level display while suppressing increase of power consumption in the image display device for performing a pulse width modulated driving method. SOLUTION: The difference between a scanning line signal voltage and signal line voltage is equalized during positive polarity writing and negative polarity writing for performing AC drive of pixels, thereby equalizing on-resistance of transistors.
