PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high luminance without lowering the efficiency of using light. SOLUTION: The lighting system 10 is constituted of: light source parts 1a and 1b; linearly polarized light generation parts 2a and 2b; a polarized light dependent reflection part 3; a wavelength dependent polarized light rotating part 4; and a rod integrator 5 or the like. The light source part 1a is equipped with a green LED element, and the light source part 1b is equipped with a red LED element and a blue LED element. Light beams from the respective light source parts go through the linearly polarized light generation parts 2, the polarized light dependent reflection part 3, the wavelength dependent polarized light rotating part 4, whereby they are guided to the rod integrator 5, and also converted into linearly polarized light beams having the same or nearly the same polarization direction.
