PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for causing a reaction to proceed in a state where sudden heat generation or the like is suppressed and the reaction is controlled when a condensation reaction ofα,α'-dichloro-p-xylylene with phenol is industrially performed, and to obtain a p-xylylene-phenol resin excellent in flame retardancy, oxidation resistance, heat resistance, and the like, and having good reproducibility and uniform quality. SOLUTION: The method for producing the p-xylylene-phenol resin comprises controlling the content of transition metal elements and typical metal elements inα,α'-dichloro-p-xylylene is controlled in a range of 10-0.01 ppm.
