<p>The present invention defines a differential drive continuously variable transmission and infinitely variable transmission system (CVT-IVT), especially for automotive vehicles, that is characterized by the sturdy and simplified integration of a toroidal variator unit to a coaxial differential gear unit and also, optionally, to a coaxial planetary gear set, wherein ratio change is facilitated principally by the control mechanism of the variator unit (V), and wherein a novel variator heat sink and center support (8) is used as the main support for the input shaft (4) as well as the main support for the variator control shafts and also as a cooling device that provides sufficient cooling of the variator unit (V) and as a space-filling device that optimizes the distribution of the traction fluid, which thus consequently allows the simplified integration of the infinitely variable transmission system herein described. The system incorporates the use of differential action for continuous shifting through the entire transmission range - i.e., forward, geared-neutral, and reverse.</p> |
