<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robot program updating method capable of updating an appropriate handling program in correspondence to an object with simple operation. <P>SOLUTION: The robot program updating method approximates the radio tag 15 attached onto the object 16 to a radio tag reader 13 provided for a robot control unit 11 to read the tag. By processing executed on the robot control unit 11, a database 14 is inquired on the basis of an identification number 19 read from the radio tag 15. A program module of the robot control program for handling corresponding to the object 16 is provided by the data base 14 and the program module is downloaded.
