<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably and efficiently provide arbitrary color tone and brightness for illumination use by a single light emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: Openings 12 of gate electrodes 10A, 10B and 10C are formed in a size equal to or slightly larger than that of a pattern area of each cold-cathode electron emission source 6; and a pulse voltage having, as a peak value, a voltage for making phosphors 16A, 16B and 16C having emission colors different from one another emit light in a saturated state is applied to a cathode electrode 5 from the respective gate electrodes 10A, 10B and 10C. Thereby, almost all electrons emitted from the cold-cathode electron emission sources 6 are made to reach an anode electrode 15 without generating a harmful metal spatter; and the color tone and brightness of a light emission surface as the whole of the phosphors 16 can be stably and efficiently adjusted by changing the frequency or the pulse width of the pulse voltage while reducing luminance irregularity by dispersion of a field emission characteristic of the cold-cathode electron emission sources 6 by making the respective phosphors 16A, 16B and A6C emit light at high luminance in a saturated state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
