PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to select low-gradation printing, and to shorten time required for the low-gradation printing, when the printing can be done with a low gradation as in the case of text data printing and test printing. SOLUTION: A drive pulse depending on dot pattern data (gradient) of a pixel is selected from a drive waveform signal which is composed of a combination of a plurality of drive pulses, and fed to a piezoelectric element (actuator) which is provided in an inkjet head, so that an ink droplet can be ejected from an inkjet nozzle. In this case, the desired number of the gradations can be selected from among the plurality of numbers of the gradations, and only the piezoelectric-element driving pulse necessary for the number of the gradations is selected depending on the selected number of the gradations, so that the drive waveform signal, which is composed of the combination of the drive pulses depending on each gradient of the number of the gradations, can be generated and output.
