PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for suppressing noise capable of obtaining an emphasized voice which is excellent in subjective sound quality, that will not generate noise in the output signal, and to provide a method and an apparatus, capable of achieving sufficiently high quality of an emphasized voice using proper suppression coefficients with respect to every kind of background noise. SOLUTION: The method and the apparatus for suppressing noise has a coefficient-computing part for silence sections which computes the coefficients for silence sections based on an emphasized voice power spectrum and an estimated noise power spectrum and a coefficient storage part, which stores coefficients for sound sections and an after-suppression coefficient computing part for computing post-suppression coefficients, based on the coefficients obtained for silence sections and coefficients for sound sections.
