A transducer (10) has a coil (14) having a first air gap (22); a magnetic mechanism (12) having a second air gap (24); and an armature (26) having an armature leg extending through the two air gaps. The magnetic mechanism includes a structure (36) extending into the second air gap. The structure limits the movement of the armature leg within the second air gap. An independent claim is also included for a method of increasing the shock resistance of a transducer comprising decreasing the size of the second air gap.
