<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shift register having improved electrical characteristics and a display device having improved picture quality. <P>SOLUTION: A stage of a shift register includes a driving part, a carry part, and a discharge part. The drive part outputs an output signal based on one out of a start signal and a carry signal of a previous stage and one out of the first clock signal and the second clock signal having an opposite phase to the first clock signal. The carry part is provided with a control electrode to which one out of the start signal and the previous carry signal is applied, a first electrode receiving one input out of the first and the second clock signals, a second electrodes outputting the carry signal separated from the output signal, and a carry transistor including a channel layer having a length different from that of a channel layer of the previous stage. The discharge part receives an input of an output signal of the next stage and discharges an output signal.
