<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control system determining whether a forced neutral device which brings the state of an automatic transmission into the non-transmission state that the power of an engine is not forcibly transmitted when a shift-by-wire system is abnormal operates normally or not. <P>SOLUTION: This vehicle control system 10 controls an automatic transmission controller 12 when a vehicle is stopped, an engine 2 is in an idle state, and a D/R range is selected by a shift lever 62 to change the state of the automatic transmission 6 to the non-transmission state that the power of the engine is not transmitted. The vehicle control system 10 determines that the forced neutral device is normal when the reduced amount of load on the engine is more than a predetermined amount based on the load on the engine detected by a speed sensor 3 and an intake amount sensor 4, and determines that the forced neutral device is abnormal when the reduced amount of load on the engine is not more than the predetermined amount.
