<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an image to be displayed as more natural image. <P>SOLUTION: In a television receiver for receiving a video signal subjected to inverse gamma correction and displaying an image corresponding to the video signal onto a display section 12, a signal correction section 111 corrects a luminance signal Y included in the video signal so that the luminance of the image corresponding to the video signal becomes a luminance corresponding to the visibility of a person viewing the image displayed on the display section 12. A contour correction section 31 corrects the contour of the luminance signal Y on the basis of the corrected luminance signal Y. A YCbCrRGB conversion section 34 generates an RGB signal for displaying the image on the display section 12 on the basis of the luminance signal Y whose contour is corrected and color difference signals Cb, Cr included in the video signal. A panel gamma correction section 35 applies gamma correction to the generated RGB signal in response to the gamma characteristic of the display section 12.
