<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of cavitation in a range of a suction port, to extend the inspection period of a fuel pump, and to extend the service life in a fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine equipped with at least one plunger 10 wherein a suction chamber 11 and a pump chamber 12 connected mutually particularly through two suction ports 13 close a plunger and the plunger closes the suction port 13 in a first position, flow of fuel into the pump chamber from the suction chamber is prevented, and the plunger opens the suction port or the respective suction ports in a second position, and cooperates so as to fill the fuel from the suction chamber to the pump chamber. <P>SOLUTION: The suction port is provided with an inlet region 14 adjacent to the suction chamber and partitioned stepwise into a truncated cone shape, and the inlet region partitioned stepwise into the truncated cone shape is gradually narrowed from the suction chamber to the pump chamber. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
