PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an organovanadate without generating harmful by-products in producing the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing the organovanadate having at least one vanadium-oxygen-carbon bond by performing the reaction of reacting materials and then distilling off low boiling point compounds produced as by-products and containing water is provided by reacting at least 1 kind of vanadium oxide selected from VO, V<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, VO<SB>2</SB>and V<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>with a specific hydroxy compound. Preferably, the hydroxy compound is an aromatic hydroxy compound expressed by the general formula: Ar<SP>1</SP>OH (wherein, Ar<SP>1</SP>is a 6-20C aromatic group), and the low boiling point compounds produced as the by-products and containing water are preferably removed by a distillation method.
