PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform more precise exposure control in accordance with an object. SOLUTION: During pre-imaging prior to regular imaging, the lightness of respective pixels constituting a reference image to be a reference, imaged by a CCD is evaluated separately for a plurality of stages of lightness areas, and a histogram indicating the distribution of the lightness of the respective pixels is acquired. Based on the acquired distribution information, an exposure time of the CCD in regular imaging is corrected. In comparison with conventional exposure control based on a multi-divided photometric system, more precise exposure control can be performed in accordance with the object. Furthermore, lightness/darkness recognition performance of the CCD can be fully utilized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
