PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus free from the degradation in print quality, such as character blur, due to the change in speed of a transfer belt. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus including a transfer unit which presses the transfer belt to a photoreceptor through a paper and gives a charge having a polarity opposite to that of a toner to the rear face of the transfer belt by a transfer device to attract and convey the paper and transfers a toner image formed on the photoreceptor to the paper, a movement speed of the transfer belt is increased stepwise in accordance with the amount of use of the transfer belt.
