PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article which keeps the surface sheet substantially flat and thin when a body liquid is not absorbed, and which is excellent in wearing feeling and portability, as well as in the wearing feeling even when the body liquid is absorbed. SOLUTION: This sanitary napkin 1 has a longitudinally long flat shape, and is equipped with a liquid-permeable surface sheet 2, a liquid impermeable rear surface sheet 3, and a liquid holding type absorbing body 4 being inserted between both sheets. On a confronted surface with the absorbing body 4 in an excretion section facing region S of the surface sheet 2 in the sanitary napkin 1, a liquid absorbing shrinking member 5 which can shrink when absorbing a liquid is arranged. The liquid absorbing shrinking member 5 is bonded to the surface sheet 2 by a bonding pattern by which a plurality of protuberances 21, 21 and so forth may be formed on the surface sheet 2 by the shrinkage of the liquid absorbing shrinking member 5.
