The invention relates to an ultra-sensitive optical detector with high time resolution, which uses a surface plasmon. The inventive optical detector, which is intended to detect at least one photon, comprises a dielectric substrate (SB) having at least one biometric detection element (39a) disposed thereon in order to generate an electric signal from the energy of the photon(s) received. In addition, at least one coupling element is formed on the substrate, which is different from the detection element and which comprises a metallic element (G) that is provided to generate a surface plasmon by interaction with the photon(s) and to guide said plasmon to the detection element which then absorbs the energy of said surface plasmon.
