A surface light source device is provided to enlarge an area of an electrode by forming compensation bosses on at least one portion of the electrode, thereby increasing discharge efficiency of a corresponding channel. A light source body(210) has plural discharge spaces filled with discharge gas. Bosses(221,222) are formed on one end of the light source body. A first electrode(231) is positioned on one end of the light source body to cover the bosses, and applies a voltage to each discharge space. At least one compensation bosses(241,242) is formed on the other end of the light source body. A second electrode(232) is formed on the other end of the light source body to cover the compensation bosses, and applies a voltage to each discharge space.
