PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce sense of incongruity given to a driver at a time of automatic start and stop and improve energy efficiency. SOLUTION: In an automobile automatically starting and automatically stopping an internal combustion engine, battery average use quantity Bav per unit time during engine stop is calculated, a smaller value is set as demand charge power Pb* as average use quantity Bav is larger (S350) based on average use quantity Bav calculated when battery residual capacity SOC gets smaller than predetermined quantity Slo and the engine is automatically stopped, and the battery is charged by demand charge power Pb* (S360 to S380) until residual capacity gets to the predetermined quantity Shi or more and the engine is automatically stopped.
