PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-in-oil type emulsion composition having excellent stability and good sense of use. SOLUTION: The water-in-oil type emulsion composition comprises (A) sphingosines represented by general formula (1) [wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; Y is methylene, methine or O; X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>and X<SP>3</SP>are each H, OH or an acetoxy group; X<SP>4</SP>is H, an acetyl group or the like; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each H, OH or the like; R is H, an amidino group or the like; and (a) is 2 or 3], (B) a 6-30C fatty acid, (C) a silicone-based surfactant, (D) a silicone oil and (E) an oily component except the silicone oil.
