<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital signature generating system that is secure and effective against power analysis attacks or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The authentication system and a method for signing data use a hardware software partitioned approach. The processing process is divided into a plurality of steps, and some step parts are executed in parallel. Thus, the power consumed by each processing means is consumed in a way of being masked. Consequently, the power consumed by one processing means is masked by the power consumed by the other processing means.
