PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a benzenedithiol metal complex having high solubility to various solvents as a singlet quencher to prevent the photodegradation of dyes such as polymethine dye, aminium dye and immonium dye and high solubility in various resins. SOLUTION: The benzenedithiol metal complex is expressed e.g. by compound (1). The benzenedithiol metal complex is produced by reacting a 1,2-dicyano-3,6-dialkoxybenzene-4,5-dithiol of a specific formula with a transition metal salt and at least one kind of salt selected from alkali metal salt, alkaline earth metal salt, quaternary ammonium salt and quaternary phosphonium salt.
