VU METER

A VU meter wherein a common scale can be used to perform a level management from a program production to a program transmission with respect to all broadcast programs. There are included an input part (1) of digital or analog audio signals; and a bandpass filter (2) that is provided on the output side of the audio signal input part (1) and that passes, among the audio signals from the input part (1), a signal having a frequency of a telephone band (specifically, a range of 300 Hz to 3.4 kHz). On the output side of a bandpass filter (2), there is provided an indicator drive signal generating part (3) that generates, based on the audio signal from the bandpass filter (2), a signal that drives an indicator. The indicator drive signal generating part (3) determines an average value of the input signal from the bandpass filter (2) for 300 ms to output the drive signal that moves the pointer (5) of the indicator (4) in the following stage by a distance established in accordance with the determined value.
