PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic shift control device capable of securing excellent shift feeling by preventing frequent shift operations when an engine load changes in a short cycle. SOLUTION: This automatic shift control device comprises a shift control means 9 determining a fuel consumption and a necessary torque required for maintaining a present operating state for each shift stage of the transmission 3 of the vehicle, selecting, as a target shift stage, a shift stage with the minimum fuel consumption among the shift stages at which the necessary torque is less than the maximum torque of the engine, and shifting the transmission to the target shift stage and a shift prohibition means 9 prohibiting a shift by the shift control means when the accelerator opening of the vehicle exceeds a first predetermined opening and the necessary torque at the present shift stage exceeds a comparison torque smaller than the maximum torque of the engine and, after the prohibition, releasing the prohibition of the shift when the accelerator opening is less than a second predetermined opening smaller than the first predetermined opening.
