PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a weld metal not only having high temperature strength but also having excellent toughness and high temperature embrittlement resistance. SOLUTION: In the submerged arc welding method for steel for fireproof construction, the total content of respective components incorporated in either or both of a wire and flux excluding components existing as oxides and fluorides in the flux satisfies by mass 0.01 to 0.15% C, 0.1 to 2% Si, 0.2 to 5% Mn, 0.1 to 2% Mo, 0.005 to 0.5% Nb, 0.002 to 7% Al, 0.01 to 5% Ti and <0.01% Cr.
