The method involves having a sensor element, a heating element (14), a temperature measuring instrument (18) for measuring a gas temperature, and a mechanism for the determination of the temperature of the heating element. The heat conductivity of the gas, the relaxation time of the gas and the temperature (T1) of the gas is measured. Using pre-determined system constants the gas pressure is computed.
