The method involves adjusting operation of an electrical lamp of an illuminating system using an electronic switching device. A measuring procedure characterizing an ambient temperature of the electrical lamp is implemented. A measuring value is generated during the switching procedure. The measuring value is compared with a threshold value, and an electrical output of the electrical lamp is varied when the measured value differs from the threshold value. The output is decreased when the measured value exceeds or falls below the threshold value. An independent claim is also included for an illumination system with an electrical lamp and an electronic switching device.
