714,770. Cathode ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1951 [Sept. 23, 1950], No. 21168/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1) A cathode-ray tube deflection system comprises one or more windings and a metal cylinder placed, coaxially with the tube, around the tube and between at least one winding and the tube, in such a manner as to make, by eddy current absorption, the variation of the current in the winding or windings substantially linear during the scanning period. The effect of the eddy currents is' stated to damp the rise of current more strongly, the faster the rate at which the current rises. The cylinder may be formed by a thin metal foil, for example of copper, brass or aluminium.
