METHOD OF PREVENTING ULTRAVIOLET RAY-INDUCED APOPTOSIS

It is intended to provide a method of preventing ultraviolet ray irradiation-induced apoptosis in the epidermal cells and enhancing the resistance of the skin to the onset of skin damages induced by ultraviolet ray irradiation by promoting the expression of SCCA-1 and/or -2 in the epidermal cells. It is further intended to provide a skin examination method of evaluating the resistance of the skin to skin damages induced by ultraviolet ray irradiation characterized by comprising measuring the expression of SCCA- 1 and/or -2 in the epidermal cells and judging the epidermis as having low resistance to UV in the case where the expression is lowered compared with the epidermal cells. It is furthermore intended to provide a method of screening a drug capable of enhancing the resistance to skin damages induced by ultraviolet ray irradiation characterized by selecting a drug capable of promoting the expression of SCCA-1 and/or -2 as an UV- resistance enhancer.
