A method and a device for upgrading a driver of an image forming device are provided to increase user convenience and satisfaction by storing the latest driver program to a printer from a host device without using any portable storage medium, as a multi-mode for recognizing the printer as an independent external storage device is set to the printer. The latest driver information obtainer(552) reads printer driver program information by accessing a website(580) offering the driver program of the printer(500). A class mode changer(554) changes a class mode of the printer into a specific class besides a unique class of the printer. A driver comparator(556) reads the driver program information stored in the printer, and compares the read driver program information with the driver program information obtained from the latest driver information obtainer. A driver upgrading part(558) downloads the latest driver from the website and stores the downloaded latest driver to the printer if the driver stored in the website is the latest driver. The driver upgrading part installs the latest driver program stored in the printer to a host device of the printer.
