A magnetic head is provided to obviate the leakage of a writing current even when a sensing current or a writing current is supplied to a read head element or an inductive write head, thereby suppressing the deterioration of the read head element by inserting a non-magnetic layer between the read head element and the inductive write head element. A magnetic head comprises a read head element(46), an inductive write head element(45), and a non-magnetic layer(58) interposed between the read head element(46) and the inductive write head element(45). The non-magnetic layer(58) is formed of a material having a lower permittivity than alumina. The read head element(46) includes a lower shield layer(52), an upper shield layer(51), an insulating layer(53) interposed between the lower shield layer(52) and the upper shield layer(51), and a magneto-resistive film(49) embedded within the insulting layer(53). The inductive write head element(45) includes a lower magnetic pole layer(55), a non-magnetic gap layer(56) formed on the lower magnetic pole layer(55), and an upper magnetic pole layer(54) formed on the non-magnetic gap layer(56).
