A method for providing a location inquiring service by using a phonebook in a portable phone is provided to request the location inquiring service in a TCP/IP type at the phonebook without a WAP(Wireless Application Protocol) browsing process, thereby rapidly using the location inquiring service because time(for example, about 30 seconds) required for the WAP browsing is not necessary, and accordingly providing convenience in use. A method for providing a location inquiring service by using a phonebook in a portable phone comprises the following steps of: subscribing to the location inquiring service(S2~S5); searching a person, whom a user wants to inquire, by searching the phonebook of the portable phone; selecting a location inquire requesting menu on the phonebook of the searched person; requesting location inquire to a location inquire server by generating a predetermined TCP/IP(Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) packet on the basis of information recorded on the phonebook(S6); enabling the location inquire server to inquire location of the inquire object by using information of the inquire object received through the TCP/IP packet; and transmitting the location inquire result to the portable terminal(S7).
