Liquid crystal display device having image sensing function

A liquid crystal display device includes a gate line (102) and a data line (104) intersecting each other on a substrate (142). The liquid crystal display device further includes a photo sensing device (140) a first thin film transistor (106) located at an intersection area of the gate line and data line. The photo sensing device operates to sense an ambient light and includes a storage capacitor (180) to store charge generated by light. The photo sensing device is driven by a driving voltage other than the data voltage. The device may be used to scan a printed document and store the data to be displayed by the device as desired by a user. The photo sensing device detects differences in light intensity reflected from light and dark areas of the document.
