A display device and a control method thereof are provided to receive information about a predetermined broadcasting format and display a channel receiving broadcasting signals corresponding to the broadcasting format on a display part without user's setting for the channel as a favorite channel. A display device includes a user selection part(80) having a broadcasting format selection part(85) for enabling a user to select a predetermined broadcasting format. A signal receiving part(10) receives data about the broadcasting format. A control part(60) controls a tuner(20) to display a channel corresponding to the broadcasting format in case the broadcasting channel is selected through the selection part. The data about the broadcasting format is included in the sequence header or PSIP(Program and System Information Protocol) of an image signal included in broadcasting signals thereof, and the control part analyzes the sequence header or PSIP to determine whether the channel corresponds to the broadcasting format or not.
