A broadcasting receiver and a channel information processing method are provided to include a channel in a channel map even when the channel, which does not exist in a DCM, exists in a VCM, thereby minimizing malfunction caused by inconsistency of channel information data between the DCM and the VCM. A cable broadcasting receiver includes a host for demodulating or decoding by referring to channel map information after turning a predetermined channel frequency. A cable card(200) is detachably attached to the host, and generates a channel map from received SI(Service Information Delievered Out-Of-Band for Digital Cable Television) according to inconsistency between DCM(Defined Channel Map) information, which is defined within the SI, and VCM(Virtual Channel Map) information. The cable card includes an SI parsing part(202) for detecting table information by parsing the received SI. A control part(203) detects the inconsistency between the DCM information and the VCM information and outputs a control signal according to a type of the inconsistency. Then, a channel map generating part(204) generates a channel map from the table information detected by the SI parsing part and transmits the same to the host.
