An optical disc reproducing apparatus for reducing a disc information detection time and a method for reducing the disc information detection time thereof are provided to reduce the disc information detection time when a recording and reproducing apparatus is reset by storing disc information like a TOC(Table Of Contents) read from an optical disc in a storing unit. A loader unit(100) loads an optical disc(105). An F/E(Front/End) unit(110) controls the loader unit(100) to detect disc information from the optical disc(105). A disc information storing unit(130) stores disc information about the optical disc loaded in the loader unit(100). When power is reset, a B/E(Back/End) unit(120) reads the disc information stored in the disc information storing unit(130), and uses the read disc information in the reproduction and record of the optical disc(105).
